Twisted Mint Lemonade
Twisted Mint Lemonade brings fresh mint into a familiar sweet-and-tart citrus drink. This home recipe uses a short blend to distribute the herb through the glass without turning it into a thick green purée. Dissolving the sugar first prevents gritty sediment and gives a consistent sweetness from the first sip to the last. Mint strength and lemon acidity both vary, so taste the chilled mixture before serving. The result is a lively nonalcoholic drink that fits naturally beside grilled dishes, salty mezze and warm-weather meals, with the restaurant version left to its own house preparation.

Ingredients
- 150 ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 600 ml water, divided
- 70 g granulated sugar
- 20 g fresh mint leaves, washed
- 200 g ice cubes
Method
Combine the sugar with 100 ml of the water in a small saucepan. Heat gently for 2–3 minutes, stirring until dissolved, then let cool for 20 minutes.
Put the lemon juice, mint leaves, cooled syrup and remaining 500 ml water in a blender. Blend for 15–20 seconds, only until the mint is finely flecked.
Taste and stir well. Strain through a coarse sieve if you prefer fewer mint pieces.
Divide the ice between four glasses, pour in the mint lemonade and serve immediately.
Make it your own.
- Remove tough mint stems, which can give the drink a grassy taste.
- Brief blending keeps the mint bright; prolonged blending can darken it and create excessive foam.
- Make the syrup ahead and refrigerate it so the final drink stays cold.
