Watermelon
Watermelon makes a refreshing drink because its sweet flesh already contains so much water. This home guide keeps the ingredient list short, adding only a little lime for definition and enough cold water to help the blender work. The fruit itself provides the sweetness, so choosing a ripe melon matters more than adding syrup. Straining is optional and changes the texture rather than the essential flavor. Serve the drink soon after blending and stir it if it separates. It is a light, fruit-forward accompaniment to a summer lunch or a table of shared plates.

Ingredients
- 800 g chilled seedless watermelon flesh, rind removed
- 100 ml cold water
- 20 ml freshly squeezed lime juice
- 150 g ice cubes
Method
Cut the watermelon into 3 cm chunks and remove any visible mature black seeds.
Blend the watermelon with the cold water and lime juice for 30–45 seconds until smooth.
For a lighter juice, pass through a coarse sieve into a jug, pressing gently with a spoon. Leave unstrained for more fruit texture.
Divide the ice between four glasses, pour over the watermelon drink and serve. Stir the jug before a second pour because separation is natural.
Make it your own.
- Chill the watermelon before blending to avoid relying on large amounts of ice.
- Taste the fruit first; ripe watermelon usually needs no added sweetener.
- Avoid blending the pale rind, which dilutes the fruit flavor and can taste vegetal.
